Happy Birthday Ian!

Hey, Ian McDonald is 60 years young Sunday 25! So let's celebrate this original member of King Crimson (one of Radio Dupree's favourite groups) as well as Foreigner.

Ian was most recently seen (and heard) in The 21st Century Schizoid Band playing the early Crimson stuff.

Hat's off to Ian. Have a great birthday!

Dupree staff at midsummer festivities

"Little frogs, little frogs". College Neb Stephenson sings a traditional Swedish midsummer song. Its orgin is unknown but I get a feeling of pagan rituals under the Nordik sky maybe a thousand years ago. I bring the thin bread and schnapps. Neb has the strawberries in his bag. People of all ages is dancing around with green leaves tied to their hair. The tradition lives on.

The Who touring again

The Who live show luxury package
The Who is back on tour again and started the 2006 world tour this Saturday in Leeds recreating the 1970 gig that became the classic live album Live At Leeds.

Fans of the band will have the chance to buy official recordings of the shows. That includes 2-CD audio and DVD:s. You can buy them one and one or splash out for the complete package in a special box (pictured above).

The DVD:s will be four camera crew recordings and have both a stereo and a surround mix.

Just as the previous times - 2002 and 2004 - The Who has made these what you might call official bootlegs available, the profits will go to charities designated by the band.

Why don't Steely Dan follow suit with their upcoming tour of the U.S. of A.? I'm sure enough fans in the States and - especially - rest of the world would love a chance to buy the live shows like this.
Chances of that happening? Just about as big as Sweden winning the currently playing World Cup in football. Or "soccer" as some of you might prefer to call it.

See TheMusic.com for more on The Who's concert CD:s and DVD:s.

Have you heard the new stuff...?

Eilert Pilarm in a blue Las Vegas type of Elvis dress
...Eilert Pilarm (pictured) makes his comeback on Radio Dupree. For you who do not know Eilert is an Elvis interpreter from Sweden. Legendary British radio DJ John Peel named Eilert's Greatest Hits one of his favourite albums of 1996.

The new CD The Royal Dan where various stars give us their versions of Steely Dan classics seem to appeal to many Radio Dupree listeners.
When it comes to Bowie we have re-discovered the Young Americans album and Scary Monsters.

What about Zappa then...? Since we have found out that there are several new listeners that are Zappa fans we are repeating some of the stuff from recent odd releases like Imaginary Diseases, Joe's Corsage and FZ:OZ. Stuff that is so poorly distributed that many fans have not got themselves copies yet.

Weekend music

Navasota

Who are those five guys? They called themselves Navasota, and the album Rootin' from 1972 is Steely Dan-special as Donald Fagen plays piano on a few tracks and together with Walter becker he arranged hons and violins on the album. There's also one song written by Fagen/Becker called Canyon Ladies.

We're currently playing that and other songs from Rootin'.
On the album also Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and Mark Volman and Howie Kaylan of Flo & Eddie fame.

Enjoy the weekend!
