Album designer Storm Thorgerson dies

A handful of album sleeves designed by Thorgerson.
British graphic designer Storm Thorgerson has died at the age of 69.
He designed many classic album covers for artists and groups as Pink Floyd, Genesis, Peter Gabriel and Led Zeppelin. Some of his works became iconic, like the cover for Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.

Peter Gabriel comments Thorgerson's death like this on Facebook: "He was a smart, very gifted artist, who could be warm and nurturing, difficult and obstinate in equal measure. His work was highly original and influential. We will all miss him badly as a man and artist".

George Duke plans to release more music by the Duke/Cobham band

Keyoboardist George Duke is digging through the tapes of the Billy Cobham/George Duke band from the mid 70's. He writes on Facebook that it might result in the release of two volumes next year:
"Hey everybody - for you fusion fans I must let you know that I've finally found the time to work on the tracks from the original Billy Cobham/George Duke band featuring Al Johnson on bass and John Scofield on guitar. Not having heard this band and music in a long time I must tell you the playing is pretty amazing! I think I'll be able to release two volumes of music from these recordings so watch out for the first release sometime early next year! By the way, I have a new CD "DreamWeaver" to be released July 16th. I will upload info about that sometime next week along with samples. Peace, GD"

Chart compiled by listeners voting
on the songs they hear on Radio Dupree

Slightly late but with an even more retro feel  than usual. And it's a first time number one as well; that one off collaboration between Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper and Stephen Stills released in 1968. Bloomfield and Stills never played together for the record, but that's a story for another time.

Three Hendrix in the Top 10 and a couple more on the lower half of the chart = business as usual as it has been for the past six months or so.

David Bowie's new one; The Next Day, came in a bit late in the month. Late enough to stay our Album of the Month for April as well. Didn't make the Top 20 this time around, but two old Bowie tracks did. Maybe it just needs some time, like Donald Fagen's Sunken Condos? It was our AotM in October but didn't chart as well then as it does now.

Keep listening, keep voting and check out the result in early May!

Now you can pre-order your Trout Mask Replica

In january 2012 Gail Zappa told the radio station Rockline about future projects and mentioned that the Zappa Family Trust would "revisit Trout Mask Replica", the Captain Beefheart album that Frank Zappa produced and that was released in 1969. Now you can pre-order it:
http://barfkoswill.shop.musictoday.com/Dept.aspx?cp=971_15167

So why should you order this one? You may already have it on CD. Good question. Well, this is how they explain it:
"We here at UMRK determined that the TMR Master was damaged somewhere in the years of it's return orbit. The Vaultmeister created almost in its entirety a new Master from our own Vault safety copies. And as if that wasn't enough chocolate for your Sunday sundae, we had Bob Ludwig remaster the Work for you. What you now have available to you is the definitive TROUT MASK REPLICA. Be the judge. Be the jury. Be the bongo. Be the fury!!!"

Nice, but we at Radio Dupree are actually happy with our copy of the old 2 LP set. Good enough!
