Springsteenmania hits Sweden

 

With two concerts in Stockholm this week the Swedish capital is in sort of Springsteen fever.
One can see fans in band t-shirts on the streets everywhere in the city.
The first Stockholm concert on this week took place on Monday July 15. More than 53 000 people were in the audience at Strawberry Arena. Many concert-goers rates the show on social media as one of Bruce Springsteen's best Swedish concerts ever. Radio Dupree had one staff member present and can confirm that it was a really great show, three hours long. Bruce chose an unusual  song for an opener: Into The Fire. And Bruce & The E Street band really were on fire that night. The 2nd Swedish show takes place on Thursday July 18.

Zappa percussionist Ed Mann dies

American musician Ed Mann (b. 1954) has passed away. He played percussion in Frank Zappa's band for many years, making his debut there in fall 1977. 

He continued touring with Zappa in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982 and finally in 1988 which came to be Zappa's last tour. 
Ed Mann plays on numerous Zappa albums and can also be seen in the movie Baby Snakes which was filmed at The Palladium in New York City on Halloween 1977..

Whisky A Go Go, 1968 compiles everything The Mothers of Invention played across their three sets at the Whisky on July 23, 1968. This extensive collection is newly remixed on 5 LP, 2 LP and 3 CD.

FZ recorded the entire evening with the possibility of an album project. Although bits were released by Zappa over the years, a full live album never happened & the tapes sat in the Vault for 55 years.

Joni Mitchell and Neil Young return to Spotify

 

In 2022 Joni Mitchell left the streaming platform Spotify in solidarity with Neil Young's protest over it hosting anti-vax content. Now both artist's music is back on Spotify.

Official release: The Doors live in Sweden 1968

The Doors’ two legendary sets in Stockholm, Sweden on September 20, 1968, will be officially released on Record Store Day 2024.

The recordings were made by Sveriges Radio and they are highly regarded by many fans and have been bootlegged many times. But now the recordings have been mixed and mastered from the original four-track tapes by Bruce Botnick, the band’s longtime engineer andmixer,.

Seems like we will now get the definitive version of these performances by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore.
