Radio Dupree 2013 Advent calendar 16-20

[Window 16]

One of our heroes in broadcasting is Alan Partridge. After watching this interview he did with The Who's Roger Daltrey we're sure that you agree!

[Window 17]

Year-end charts come in all shapes and sizes. Often with the same artists and albums mentioned again and again. For an alternative view we give you this from Vice:

Did Hip-hop start at this one party? Interersting read from BBC:

[Window 19]

And how about music done for television. Can you find genius and creativity there to rival any classic recording from a studio or stage? Of course!

Radio Dupree 2013 Advent calendar 11-15

So, here we go! We stopped our Advent calendar after Window 10 on December 10. Why? Because we had an idea.
And after letting all the other calendars finish December 24, we now have the luxury of being the only Advent calendar still alive and filling those final few hours of 2013 with the remaining 14 windows we have in store.

Here's 11 - 15:

[Window 11]

Let's begin with a new oldie. The Gramovox Bluetooth gramophone 1920s inspired by the 1920 Magnavox R3 horn speaker. Yours for $299 and up if you get your order in before the end of the year:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gramovox/gramovoxtm-bluetooth-gramophone

[Window 12]

With YouTube the most popular music place these days we thought we'd take a look at the year end global chart and finding very little to excite us. Miley Cyrus, Rhianna and so on... A bit more interesting or at least not played to death music can be heard on the various country charts collected by Buzzfeed in this article:

http://www.buzzfeed.com/krisandres/the-2013-most-trending-domestic-music-videos-on-yo-6qn0

[Window 13]

Do we still buy physical records over here at Radio Dupree? Yes, we do! And in contrast to all the music charting behidn Window 13 here's Neb Stephenson's final store find for 2013:

[Window 14]

And while we're on the subject of physical records we wonder if this might be the answer to a question we ponder now and then. "How big can a CD-box be?"
It's Karajan 1938-1960 released about a year ago. A box set of ... 117 CD's!

[Window 15]

And as far as year end charts go the 50 Worst Albums of 2013 from Vice is now and again a slightly smile-inducing read. Although we haven't heard much of the music they sometimes get around to mentioning inbetween bursts of ... well, go check it out for yourself.

Led Zeppelin albums now streaming exclusively on Spotify

Led Zeppelin has been cautious of making its recordnings available online. The remastered catalogue was issued on iTunes as late as a year ago and now comes the news that all albums will be available for streaming exclusively on Spotify.

Press-release

Led Zeppelin's arrival on Spotify also is a nail in the coffin for the cover band LedZepAgain. The band has enjoyed sex-figure revenues annually from Spotify according to this article on ultimateclassicrock.com.

How far off can the day be when AC/DC and The Beatles join the party?

Zappa Roxy By Proxy CD delayed again

We just can't wait long enough for the Roxy by Proxy soundtrack CD, right? Just got the message that our order is still on back order: "We anticipate that your order will ship within the next 2 – 3 weeks." Sigh!
The CD could be a welcome preview to the loooong awaited Roxy DVD (Frank & The Mothers live 1973). Something to nibble on while waiting for the film to be ready for release. In July Barfko-Swill announced that they were ready to take pre-orders. In September: "We are experiencing delays in the manufacturing process so we will be shipping to you somewhat later."

Also in the latest e-mail: "Please accept our apology for the continued delay...."
Radio Dupree station manager Neb Stephenson comments: "Do they make those CD:s by hand, one at the time?"

Radio Dupree 2013 Advent calendar: December 4

We searched for "radio" on a popular video streaming site and hit upon this:

[Window Number 4!]

Some of our favorite intros (420 to be exact) are in this mix we did for BBC Radio1 a while ago, and it is actually quite a good introduction to the rest of Radio Soulwax, as a lot of tracks that are featured in this hour will come back in later shows to follow. The animated sleeves illustrate the mix and give it a whole new dimension!

Radio Dupree 2013 Advent calendar: December 3

[Window Number 3!]

[UPDATE December 8: Hey! So what or who swallowed the content here? Link, video or whatever gone... If we'd kept any sort of list of what we blog each time we could've re-created the content, but as it is... Well, you'll have to settle for a bunch of Japanese celebrities + American movie actor Tommy Lee Jones singing a line each of the classic hit Sukiyaki/上を向いて歩こうmade famous by Kyu Sakamoto/坂本 九in 1961/1963.

Trivia: Apparently done to raise money after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Tommy has a house in Kyoto. At least that's what the Internet says...

OK. Let's see if this sticks behind Advent calendar window numer 3...]

Zappafest on Radio Dupree - in memory of Frank

It is now 20 years since Frank Zappa passed away. He died on December 4, 1993, only 52 years old. To commemorate Zappa's memory Radio Dupree is having a real Zappafest today. Our playlist is packjammed with familiar tunes as well as some really rare tracks. Enjoy!

Radio Dupree 2013 Advent calendar: December 1

And with the first of December we'd like to introduce our own Advent calendar not really sure what we'll find behind each "window", but there will be one a day until Christmas.

So... first out we'd like to tell a story of Christmas that involves some people opening a 15 000 square feet/1 400 square meter large record store. Yes, you read that right. A record store. In these days of online buying and listening how can anybody make reality of opening a store where you're supposed go to buy music on physical formats like ... er ... what is that silvery thing from the 1980's called? Yes, CD! And no small store at that.

Are we just making this up or ... could it be true? The answer is behind
