Jon Herington giving us some Adult Entertainment

Inspired by the 1960's pop/rock music and with echoes of Beatles, Stones, Motown, Stax and even countyry and reggae. That's how the brand new album Adult Entertainment is described.

A long time guitarist with Steely Dan since 2000 Jon has released a few albums under his own name along the way. Adult Entertainment is the latest.

Listen to it here and read more over on jonherington.com. That's also the place where you can order the signed, special edition pre-release version.

Ask Jon Herington a question!

Of course you can hear Donald Fagen's I'm Not The Same Without You on Radio Dupree where it is enjoying its place on our playlist. And we'd be surprised if Sunken Condos doesn't end up our Album of the Month once it arrives October 16.
But just to be of service we have the first song here as posted on YouTube by the record company in question. Enjoy!

Oh. And a reminder to all fans of Steely Dan that if you're quick you can get a question answered by long time guitarist Jon Herington, thanks to fagenism over on the Steely Dan fan's BlueBook.
After a successful Q&A with Sunken Condo's co-producer and more Michael Leonhart where fagenism collected questions, mailed them off and got answers back that was compiled into a pdf, it is time to do the same with some questions to Jon. Here's what fagenism writes on September 18:

Ask Me Anything #2: Jon Herington.

With the positive response to Michael Leonhart's AMA, Jon Herington has agreed to do one too. This one will focus on Sunken Condos, his long Steely Dan career as well as his solo stuff - whatever you want. (For those not yet in the know - an AMA is a chance for devoted fans to ask deeper, less generic questions, not usually covered by the conventional media.)

Let's be as informal about this as last time around, if everyone is cool with that. Popular questions will be high-priority, obviously
.

And you find the link to Michael Leonhart's AMA by searching for fagenism and September 16, 2012 on the dandom.com BlueBook.

Jon Herington's Time On My Hands coming August 3

It's about time we pointed you, dear reader of this blog, in the direction of Jon Herington's soon-to-be-released album. We've played (and continue to play) tracks from his shine, shine (shine) released late 2010, and are looking forward to get our hands on the new one titled Time On My Hands.

It will be out August 3, but you can go to Jon's homepage and listen to short snippets of the songs. It is promised to be reflecting "the bluesy, driving rock that had its gestation in the club scene" as well as "sly humor in the lyrics." And "the real treats here are the extended guitar solos, and for the first time on a record of his own Jon has decided to 'stretch,' though never at the expense of the songwriting, which remains focused, thoughtful and fun."

Guest spots on the album from Donald Fagen, Jim Beard, Danny Louis and Rob Morsberger.

A review on the album is available on Inside MusicCast's Facebook-page and they also have an interview with Jon done back in 2008 that you can listen to here. as well as an interview from early 2011 where you can learn more about the Jon Herington Band  = Jon, Dennis Espantman (bass, vocals) and Frank Pagano (drums, vocals).

With Jon Herington's official release party for his latest album shine (shine, shine) coming up tomorrow Saturday April 23 at Bitter End in New York, we'd like you to read this article by Joan K. Smith in the Huffington Post.

If you're in the New York area please head on over to the release party! The facts:

Place: Bitter End, New York. 147 Bleeker Street (between Thompson and LaGuardia)

Time: 11 PM, August 23.

The whole album shine (shine, shine) will be performed.

We have Jon Herington on the Radio Dupree playlist. And not just the lastest album, but songs from previous ones as well.

And to end this a performance of the song shine (shine, shine) that was written after the album was finished. The album title was a good song title and so it was written!

(Having had the opportunity and privilege to meet Jon once we'd like to join the Huffington Post article commenters in stating that he is a very nice and humble person. A real "mench"!)

Jim Fisk reporting #1

Jim Fisk kinda finds stuff on the web
Hello!

* Saw some comments on Twitter regarding the halftime show at this year's Super Bowl mentioning Steely Dan. That they ought to do it.

Well, the Steely Dan performing at a sports happening sentiment has been aired before. Before Twitter. Back in 2000 during a q & a with fans asking the questions Donald and Walter got a chance to address the subject:

Question:

Would you ever consider singing the National Anthem at a World Series game?
- - - Submitted by: Patty Rasmussen

Answer:

We have been prepared for this possibility for some time now, in that we have written a new, hip, contemporary national anthem for the U.S. which is entitled "Hell of a Country, Ain't That So!" Our previous anthem attempt, "O Say Can You Dig?", which was more of a rewrite than a freestanding original, has been abandoned in favor of this new exciting tune. We have not heard back yet from Congressman Barr or from Chuck Knoblauch, but we are ready to go.

* The dandom.com Bluebook is where quite a few Steely Dan fans go to discuss the music and to share news. It is is currently being rebuilt, so new posts will take a little time to appear.

Another page I expect to change shortly is steelydan.com.
To be truthful I had expected it to publish the first official news of the 2011 tour as the first date went on sale Sunday 6. But so far nothing.

Let's see who's updated first; dandom com's Bluebook or steelydan.com!

* Did you catch the inteview with guitarist Jon Herington on webradio station TheGlowRadio Sunday?

What came across is what a gentleman and nice guy he is. He also shared some news:

- With his news album Shine, Shine Shine still just released he's planning to record the remaining 6 songs of a total of 9 that will make up the next record. Longer songs, more guitar compared to Shine, Shine, Shine.

- He'll tour with Madeleine Peyroux in the Stated in April and then go to Europe. Apart from that and a few dates with his own band he has nothing else planned for 2011 so far.

- Asked about what Steely Dan (Donald Fagen and Walter Becker) are up to he said that as far as touring goes there's nothing official.

Would be nice if that interview could be made available online for all who missed it.

Jon Herington - Shine Shine Shine
As heard on Radio Dupree: Jon Herington's great new album!

Jon Herington interview today

Just saw this on Twitter posted a couple of hours ago:
TheGlowRadio: Interview with DJ James Bound and Guitarist Jon Herington. www.theglowradio.com Jon discusses his new Cd and being in Steely Dan Sunday 9PST

Might be of interest to Jon and Steely Dan fans. If we adjust the time correctly that will mean 12 am CET and 6 in the morning (Monday) European time, right?

New Jon Herington video

If you've got an iPhone and play the guitar, you can get something called an AmpliTube iRig and practise wherever you please. Or as IK Multimedia who posted this video puts it:
Jon Herington, accomplished guitarist who has played on such pivotal work as Steely Dan's Grammy-winning CD "Two Against Nature" uses AmpliTube iRig to plug his guitar into his iPhone in this video. Watch Jon play some signature Steely Dan songs and give a walk-through of the AmpliTube iRig's functions. Jon will use AmpliTube iRig to practice for his upcoming tour in August 2010.

Jon also mentions that his new solo album Shine, Shine, Shine will be available soon.

Jon Herington covering ... Steely Dan. With No Static

No StaticNo Static

Imagine being in a cover band and having the chance to play with one or more member from the band you're covering. We'd expect it to be pretty exciting.

And that's exactly what's happening in early April when Jon Herington, guitarist with Steely Dan since 2000, will sit in with No Static ("New England’s ultimate 10-piece Steely Dan-Lovers band")

The facts:

Regent Theatre (Arlington, MA) - Friday April 2, 8:00pm

"Jon Herington Joins No Static to Play the Music of Steely Dan"

More info here:

http://www.regenttheatre.com/events/no_static.htm

http://www.nostaticband.com/index.htm

http://jonherington.com/

And while we're on the subject of Jon Herington, here's what he wrote on his homepage after the 2009 Steely Dan tour was over:

The band has never sounded better to me, and I had a blast, needless to say.

And:
My new record has been mixed by (engineer/artist) Sham Sundra and is now in the process of being mastered, and work is about to begin on the cover art. My hope is to have it done and up for sale by sometime in January. Because of all my road work, it's been a long time coming, and I'm glad it's almost done.

So the good news is that the album is coming along and should be released before long.
