More Donald! Three full tracks!

Donald pic at donaldfagen.com

If just to make my previous posting old news donaldfagen.com moved ahead and added three full tracks plus 30 sec previews of the rest of the songs making up Morph The Cat. You won't hear me complaining.

The full tunes are H Gang, Morph The Cat and What I Do.
A quick look at the Steely Dan fan-places on the Internet and it's clear that What I Do is THE song. An instant Fagen-classic. And as a fan of soul music I have to agree: It's soulful, full of heart and it is together with the previously heard two tracks a great preview of what sounds like a fantastic Fagen album!

Fagen: Better sounding Morph clips!

While the official donaldfagen.com sticks sternly to it's one and only loop of H Gang, Barnes & Noble continues to offer 20/30-second teasers of all tracks in low-fi quality.

The newest contender is the Norwegian branch of Warner Music, who has five of the albums tracks as short clips on the homepage. Best sound quality yet! Just go halfway down the page and look to the right.

The latest official release dates for Morph The Cat are now:
Europe = March 13
USA = March 14

Rest of the world? = Should be similar date(s)... Mid March <--- Just our guess!

Happy Birthday Walter Becker! Have a Swedish ginger cookie!

Pepparkakor or ginger snaps or maybe even ginger cookies.
Enjoy what's left of the birthday where you're currently taking a break from recording the new album.
Have a Swedish ginger cookie. A recipe is yours by clicking the title.
Another recipe hides here! And a third one here!

If you don't feel like making them yourself, how about dropping by and I'll take you on a personal tour of the nearby ginger cookie factory. For free. Well ... if you'd let me hear a couple of demos or finished tracks I'd be ever so greatful :)

OK. Have a good one!

Weekend music ... for the eyes!

A scared guy at gunpoint

Taking a step from the aural and towards the ... visual, we decided to give you a link to a place calling itself The Museum Of Mid-Century Illustration.

You can find a whole lot of ads and pictures from the 1940's, 50's and such. A whole different world and some snazzy advertisments-as-art.

The guy pictured above is from one of those ads. You go find out for yourself exactly what they were trying to sell with a pic of a man held at gunpoint over at The Museum Of Mid-Century Illustration.

Cover of Enjoy Every SandwichIf you feel like it you can drop us an e-mail at
and in return for a correct answer get a free copy of Enjoy Evey Sandwich: The Songs Of Warren Zevon. A CD where people like Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Pixies and The Wallflowers cover songs by Warren Zevon. We have a couple to give away.

Click the title or the cover above to the right to hear sound clips from the album.

Have a great weekend!

Valentine reminder ... late or maybe v-e-r-y early

We were surprised yesterday by our friendly and all-in-all nice and friendly guys and gals over at live365.com:

A late Valentine mail from live365.com

Give your loved ones gift certificates for Valentine's Day this year is what the e-mail says. And we all know that Valentine's Day is February 14. But if you look at the date it was delivered it says February 17 ... a full two days late. At least.
Or maybe Live365 is r-e-a-l-l-y early shooting for Valentine's Day 2007?

New bass player for ZpZ tour

Dweezil Zappa seem to have recruited a new bass player quite soon after Bryan Beller left the Zappa plays Zappa band.

www.idiotbastard.supanet.com reports that the name of the new bass player is Pete Griffin.
Dweezil’s brother Ahmet will not be in the band as a regular member (vocalist). He is now on the list of special guests, along with Napoleon Murphy Brock, Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai.

The ZpZ European tour will start in May. Dweezil tells the site that each show will be unique: “Expect the Unexpected! Expect the long-anticipated release of Frank Zappa’s TRANCE-FUSION. Coincidence? Uh uh! Guitar fans welcome!”

Trance-Fusion
is the title of Frank Zappa'’s third collection of guitar solos. It has been ready for release for years, but has yet remained unreleased.

Weekend music: Spencer

Spencer
Spencer in 2006

We're no strangers to pushing local/Swedish acts by playing them on Radio Dupree or writing about them on this here blog. And this "Weekend music" would like to offer you the chance to sample the reformed and reunited group Spencer.

Spencer released an album back in 1999; Regular Deluxe, that got good reviews and the band had a bit of a hype going on for a few months. Then they disappeared from sight. Only to return this year with a three track demo that you can download for free over at http://www.thegoodones.se

What kind of music do Spencer play? Pop with a dose of rock. A knack for melodies and this time a bit harder sounding. Give 'em a try!

Have a great weekend!

Bass player quits ZpZ tour

Bass player Bryan Beller has decided to quit the Zappa plays Zappa tour.
Bryan explains it on his own website http://www.bryanbeller.com

"I've chosen not to do it. Right here in time, right now, it just didn't fit with what I wanted in my day-to-day life, period. Dweezil and I had a couple of nice conversations about it, and I wish nothing but the best for the tour and those involved - especially my good friend Joe Travers, for whom this tour is the fulfillment of a lifelong goal and dream. There's not anything else to read into this - it's all right here, and for now, this is all I have to say about it."

Radio Dupree has not heard anything more about this (from concert arranger or Zappa Family Trust or so...) but the Radio Dupree staff begin to feel a little worried. (We just got tickets for the Stockholm show in May). First the whole Euro tour for the fall of 2005 was cancelled and re-scheduled for the spring. Now this!

Morph The Cat late to Europe

Last week the release date for Donald Fagen's Morph The Cat was March 7 for the US and March 6 for Europe.
The European release date has been moved to March 13, meaning we'll have to wait one more week for the album. Or go for an import that may or may not arrive before the record is officially released in Europe.

Another news item on the updated European press-release is that H Gang will be available for download in the UK February 27, a mere month after iTunes and Rhapsody in the States started selling it.
It's not stated anywhere, but I can only hope that various European download sites will get H Gang the same day as the UK.

Weekend music: Taste the Cat

The Barnes & Noble homepage featuring Morph The Cat

Instead of updating the Radio Dupree homepage I decided to catch a movie. Eventually back home again I checked the usual spots for Donald Fagen/SteelyDan/Walter Becker news.

Over at the Bluebook somebody posted the link two hours ago. The link to the Barnes & Noble page on Morph The Cat.
I don't know if the company jumped the gun or if record-selling sites will all add sound clips this weekend, but there it is; all nine songs in gloriously low-fi (20 kbit/sec) and 20 seconds long.
Get there by clicking the Title, link or even pic above.

And once you're over a Barnes & Noble do not forget to click the CD cover as well. Looks like the DVD-A 5.1 version might get a "morphed" cover!

So ... have a great weekend! And Radio Dupree will get its monthly update tomorrow. Promise.
