New Jon Herington video

If you've got an iPhone and play the guitar, you can get something called an AmpliTube iRig and practise wherever you please. Or as IK Multimedia who posted this video puts it:
Jon Herington, accomplished guitarist who has played on such pivotal work as Steely Dan's Grammy-winning CD "Two Against Nature" uses AmpliTube iRig to plug his guitar into his iPhone in this video. Watch Jon play some signature Steely Dan songs and give a walk-through of the AmpliTube iRig's functions. Jon will use AmpliTube iRig to practice for his upcoming tour in August 2010.

Jon also mentions that his new solo album Shine, Shine, Shine will be available soon.

Baltimore gets Zappa bust

Frank Zappa's birthplace Baltimore, Maryland gets a Zappa bust.
The statue which is donated by a Lithuanian fan club (!) will be dedicated on Sunday, September 19 at the Southeast Anchor Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library located at 3601 Eastern Avenue.
http://www.zappa.com reports that plans now include an outdoor concert featuring Zappa Plays Zappa (fronted by Frank’s son Dweezil), and various events at the library and nearby Patterson Theatre in support of the dedication ceremony:
"September 19th is the anniversary of Zappa’s 1985 testimony on Capitol Hill in favor of free expression by Recording Artists at the Senate hearing instigated by certain congressional wives (members of the PMRC) concerning record labeling."

Steely Dan NOT to tour Australia in 2010?

We wrote about it June 15; a Billboard article mentioned a November tour of Australia for Steely Dan while a Hollowood Reporter article on Steve Winwood mentioned a possible tour of Australia with that very same band.
There's also the Undercover.com.au mention of the tour being announced shortly.

This past week someone calling himself/herself LA Baby has posted on the Steely Dan fan-discussion board The BlueBook that there will be no tour of Australia. A couple of quotes:

July 23:
The band has received its release so the odds of SD playing anywhere this year are, well, as close to zero as anyone would be willing to predict. Since I can't/won't reveal my source or position in this post, someone else will have to 'officially confirm' this tour will not happen.

And July 25:
I'm pretty low level but even here some good info crosses my desk.
If the band members have been released, i.e. can go about booking other gigs, those gigs should start to show up on the various band members' home pages. And hopefully an official "yes" or "no" to a 2010 tour of Australia will pop up over on steelydan.com even sooner.

Elton John & Leon Russell

The collaboration between Elton John and Leon Russell is now set for an October 25 release.
And eltonjohn.com (where you can read more about the album) has just published the cover art; a photograph of the two taken by Annie Leibovitz.

Dr. Demento leaving radio for the web

The legendary Dr. Demento (Barret Hansen) will stop doing broadcasts for regular radio and will do internet radio only.
On the web, he tells Associated Press, he can play even a wider selection of music, including tunes too raunchy or outrageous for FCC-regulated terrestrial radio.
“With the increasingly narrow casting, as they call it, of radio where stations will pick one relatively restricted format and stick with it 24 hours a day, especially in the music area, my show just got perhaps a little too odd of a duck to fit in,” he said.

Chart compiled by listeners voting
on the songs they hear on Radio Dupree

The usual Top 20 is reduced to a Top 10 this time. Well, we can't blame you listeners for choosing the sunny weather before sitting by your computer voting on songs on Radio Dupree.
Topping the chart is Blue Floyd with their bluesy cover of a Pink Floyd song. We also got Talking Heads, Zappa and King Crimson, even one song from our Album of the Month (Peter Gabriel). That's a good portion of what Radio Dupree is all about.
