Flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia dies

The Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia has died at the age of 66.
His flamenco albums of the 70's made him famous. Paco de Lucia mixed flamenco with elements of jazz and classical music. He is also famous for his collaboration work with John McLaughlin and Al di Meola.

Live webcast for Beatles fans

If you're a fan of The Beatles a webcast titled 50 Years Later 'The Beatles at the Ed Sullivan Theater' airing tomorrow (Sunday February 9) might be worth catching. Here's what the info have to say:

 Join us on Sunday, February 9th for the live webcast of the CBS News Q&A symposium focused on The Beatles, at The Ed Sullivan Theater on the 50th anniversary of their legendary performance. Taking place in the theater where it all happened 50 years ago, the live symposium will feature former Rolling Stones manager and Beatles publicity assistant Andrew Loog Oldham, Mick Jones of Foreigner, photographer (and George Harrison's ex-wife) Pattie Boyd, and Julie Taymor, director of the feature film based on Beatles songs, Across The Universe. The show will be streamed here LIVE as it happens starting at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT.

American writer/painter/performer William S. Burroughs was born 100 years ago today. And if you wonder why we do a blog post on him here on music-minded Radio Dupree it is because he made an impact on more than one of the artists featured on this station. (Cue: Burroughs -> Naked lunch -> Steely Dan or why not Frank Zappa ->The Talking Asshole.)

Outstanding guitar museum opens in northern Sweden

One of the world's largest guitar collections were made public in Umeå in northern Sweden on February 1.
The collection consists of 300 exclusive guitars and bass guitars collected over several decades by the brothers Michael and Samuel Åhdén.
Sigurd Huckle from the Radio Dupree staff paid visit today: "If you're passing through on your way to North Cape or so and have the slightest interest in guitars and rock music, don't you miss this!"
