The 100th Zappa album on its way

"The 100th Release, Produced in it its Entirety by FZ, will be available to order next month on Zappa Records."
This is the message from Zappa.com. Has to be the long awaited Dance Me This album which Frank Zappa described as follows to Guitarist Magazine in 1993: "a Synclavier album which is designed to be used by modern dance groups."
There are rumours that the music may include contributions by Spoonman, some members of the Tuvan singers and keyboardist Mats Öberg. Öberg recently told the Swedish Broadcasting that he was very excited to find out if Zappa had used some of the things he played for Zappa back in 1991, on the album.

Zappa.com also mentions a new Vaulternative Concert "in your near future", the celebration of FZ's 75th anniversary of his arrival on this planet, and that ROXY the Movie has been sent off to SXSW for consideration for their Film Festival.

The band that never left the rehearsal room

New Zappa CD - Joe's Camouflage: rehearsals from the summer of 1975 with the short-lived line up that never went on tour or recorded an album:
Frank Zappa: guitar and vocals
Napoleon Murphy Brock: sax, vocals, keyboards
Robert "Frog" Camarena: guitar and vocals
Denny Walley: guitar and vocals
Novi Novog: viola and vocals
Roy Estrada: bass and vocals
Terry Bozzio: drums and vocals

Two tracks from the album has been spinning on Zappa Radio on live365.com for a while now:
Phyniox, Take 1 (2.30) Instrumental piece not reminiscent of any other known Zappa work (we think). Sounds like a piece of music at early developing stages. Mostly a guitar solo over a chord pattern laid down by a (clavinet?) keyboard and a rhythm guitar. Bozzio's style of drumming is somewhat pompous here.

Any Downers (6.00) Early version reminding of the one performed during the fall '75 tour. A version that focused more on the band's theatrical talents. Allows more fun and cavortment compared to the one released of You Are What You Is (1981).

Joe's Camouflage is also supposed to feature at least two other songs: Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance and The Illinois Enema Bandit. Of these four songs Phyniox seems to be the most thrilling one since it is previously unknown by fans.

Gail Zappa announces Roxy soundtrack

Gail Zappa Has some interesting news for us: She is launching a new series on the label Vaulternative Records, and she is announcing the release of the "prequel to the actual soundtrack" of the Roxy DVD.
Here is what Gail says, in her own words:

Dear People of Earth,
Here's what's thrilling:

1. It is Moon's Birthday today! And this morning I was lucky enough to have a cold breakfast with Moon and Mathilda - Ice Cream Cake and the sun wasn't even up yet. Yay!

2. I know I do not have to remind you that next December 2013 is the 40th Anniversary of the Roxy Performances. Now that we have thoroughly identified all it's parts and participles, we will deliver The Movie without further incident and maybe only a little ado. In theatres, DVD and Blue-ray, sometime before December, 2013.

3. MEANWHILE . . . before this December 2012, in anticipation of The ACTUAL Movie, we are pleased to inform you that we are scheduling the release of the PREQUEL to the actual Soundtrack. Yes. You will! Appreciate the raw unbridledness of the 75 minutes and 49 seconds of Roxy without the Elsewhere. Further details on The Movie and P.S. (Prequel Soundtrack) as soon as the duckies are all lined up.

 4. Oh, and did I mention a new series is about to launch - Road Tapes - on Vaulternative Records! We've taken direct aim at Halloween!

5. Thank you.

xxx,

gz

Comment by Sigurd Huckle, the Radio Dupree Zappa department:
The Road Tapes project sounds really interesting. Could that include a release of "the big one", the concert at The Palladium, N.Y.C. October 31, 1978? (A very long show including performances of some rare material.)
In May Gail wrote about the release of a Roxy soundtrack and if she manages to release it before December it will surely please many fans! When it comes to the release of the long awaited Roxy DVD, that one has been delayed before, so don't hold your breath.

Just got the Carnegie Hall cd!

We at the Radio Dupree staff got a real surprise today. The Zappa Carnegie Hall 4 cd set in the mailbox, already!
It took Barfko-Swill/Music Today no more than 8 days to deliver...all the way from the US to Europe.
Our plan was to have the Carnegie Hall album as Album of the Month in January, but now we have already uploaded a couple of tracks on our playlists, and we plan to play it full blown already by Christmas all through January. Hotcha!
