Trance-Fusion...at last

Finally Frank Zappa's third guitar solo collection is out, after years of waiting. And yesterday we got our own CD copy in the mail box!
We have just uploaded a couple of tracks from it, as a teaser...All tracks from the album will appear on Radio Dupree as Album of the Month in December. (Will put us in the right Christmas mood, huh?) For you who didn't know Trance-Fusion is made up by guitar solos recorded live on different stages between 1977 and 1988. The extended guitar solos were edited from songs like Easy Meat, Inca Roads and others. Zappa thought of the solo parts as impovised compositions of their own, thus giving them new titles...and what titles! Good Lobna!

Weekend music

Jukon Speakers. Nobody knows for sure who plays the bass.

More music by Jukon Speakers.
Some more fresh Zappa.
Some more Johnny "Guitar" Watson.
That is what to expect on Radio Dupree this weekend.
We are adding more songs by artists that have gotten "thumbs ups" from you listeners.
That is for instance the obscure swedish group Jukon Speakers.
A couple of weeks ago we decided to test a couple of Jukon tunes on Radio Dupree, which turned out to be quite successful.
We will also upload some more Zappa stuff. You can expect more music from The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life (live 1988), but also from the You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore and Beat The Boots series.
Then we've got some more songs by Johnny "Guitar" Watson, David Bowie and Jethro Tull and...and...Well, you may just hafta tune in, folks!

Genesis reunion worries Radio Dupree staff

The supergroup Genesis will reunite for a comeback tour next summer.
"I have mixed feelings about this", says Radio Dupree prog connaisseure Sigurd Huckle.
"I lost interest in the group with their late 70's albums but now Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford declare that they will play songs from most eras of their history. It's a good thing to pick up those old pieces, but you just have to do them right, and that is not necessarily to do them the way they were done in the early 70's either. But it's certainly not like pulling off a number like Illegal Alien."

Collins has told BBC that the tour is about playing classic songs, not about making money. The first tour date is Helsinki, Finland in June 2007.

Georg for the kids

The two guys pictured above are Georg "Jojje" Wadenius and James Hollingworth. Long before Georg Wadenius went to the United States to record and tour with people like Donald Fagen and Steely Dan, he recorded and toured back home in Sweden.
He also made a couple of children's music records that are considered classics in Sweden. That was back in the early 1970's.
At the same time James did a couple of children's records, so it's not that strange that they call themselves a "super group for children's music" now that they've written and recorded an album together. It's titled Hajar du and will be released November 15.
They're out doing a few gigs together as well.

I went searching for sounds and while Georg has a few on his homepage I couldn't get the links to work. James on his did, however. Nothing from the new record. Yet.

And over on youtube.com somebody has put a video of a kid in a tree to one of Georg Wadenius children's hits from the 70's; Kalles klätterträd. This is a re-recorded version:

The fun thing about both James and Georg is that the way the do their music makes it a great listen for adults as well.
