(While looking for some inspirational music on Spotify to combine the above two pictures to one to, we found that Circus Money seem to have been removed from the music service leaving 11 Tracks Of Whack as the only Walter Becker solo album available on Spotify.)

Streaming music profits: Record labels 45.6% - Artists 6.8%

The precentages above comes from a new report from Ernst & Young with the French record label trade group SNEP. So it's not that this is another anti-label, anti-record company biased look at things.

The report is quoted in Techdirt and shows how the rvenue from streaming services Spotify and Deezer is divided up:

Labels 45.6%
Spotify/Deezer 20%
Taxes 16.7%
Songwriters/Publishers 10%
Artists 6.8%

Looking at the figures you might wonder why the record labels take almost half of the revenue, but according to the report most of thise 45.6% goes towards covering the record labels expenses. Uploading files is a costly business. Apparently.

And this report is an interesting read after all the articles about artists being angry at the streaming services for paying too little for the music they sell.

Either way you look at it the artists are still getting screwed.

Elton and T-Bone team up for a third album

T-Bone Burnett produced Elton's two latest albums (The Union from 2010 and The Diving Board in 2013) and will be the producer for the next one as well. According to guitarist Davey Johnstone it will be a rock 'n roll record.

Here's a photo from Elton's Instagram feed posted less than a day ago:

And if Elton's record sales have been on the low side of the spectrum for some time now, he still manages to pull the big crowds on the road. And make a healthy income from it as well. For 60 shows played in 2014 he reportedly made 59 million US Dollars.
