In our desperate (?) hunt for confirmation of that rumoured Steely Dan gig at the Stockholm Jazz Festival in Sweden in July, we've found yet another sign that point in that direction. Showtime Tickets list July 17 as the date. The very same date that was prematurely posted on band member Jeff Young's homepage earlier this month.
We're still waiting for the date to be added to steelydan.com's tour page or Stockholm Jazz Festival announcing the full line-up of artists. Whatever comes first. The festival homepage states that the full program will be out in April. Let's hope it's April 1 or soon thereafter.
Also: Public service radio broadcaster Swedish Radio ran a news item a couple of days ago saying that negotiations for a possible show are taking place. (Link to the news item in Swedish).

Weekend music: Salem Al Fakir
A dose of Swedish music from a guy cute enough to charm the young girls and with music skills to woo the 30+ guys. It's a winning concept.

Sara & Rebecka play Steely Dan live
That's Rebecka Törnqvist & Sara Isaksson pictured to the right.
Late last year they released a CD of Steely Dan covers; Fire In The Hole.
We interviewed them and they said that they would maybe take the covers out on the road for a few live gigs in 2007.
News has been sparse as in non-exsistent and they've kept a low-low-low profile after the record came out. So we were surprised to hear that they appeared as one of the opening act for Swedish artist Tomas Andersson Wij when he started his tour of Sweden this month. Sadly Rebecka and Sara won't join him for the full tour, but just do a few of the dates in or close to Stockholm .
More on Fire In The Hole (including a couple of links to videos) here.

Smooth and snowy Sunday
We've had a nice week with the sun making a real return and the snow melting. I believe spring is just around the corner. However, yesterday we got some cold weather including snow. Not that aggressive type, but more silently, slowly floating towards ground type of snow. And after a Saturday with a few St. Patricks Day's beers, this Sunday better bring nothing but soothing music. So it all added up to this:

Donald Fagen: "We can't wait to visit Liverpool again, ...
... with it’s very special place in pop and rock history, it’s one of those cities that always mean that little bit extra to all musicians.”
A quote from two different articles; one from the U.K. music magzine Uncut and one from The Liverpool Echo. It's all about the Livepool gig, and I used the quote here to focus on the fact that Donald and Walter must be "mentally prepared" for the European gigs regardless of the fact that no dates have been confirmed on the official steelydan.com page.
Just to clarify things: Steely Dan never played Liverpool before. The scheduled date back in 1974 was cancelled. But that doesn't mean Donald and Walter didn't take the time to visit the hometown of The Beatles and various other Liverpool groups.
UPDATE March 16: The following European dates now officially on steelydan.com!
Jul 05 - NIA - Birmingham UK
Jul 06 - Aintree Pavilion, Liverpool, UK
Jul 07 - Hammersmith Apollo - London UK
Jul 10 - Le Grand Rex - Paris France
Jul 15 - Zitadelle - Berlin Germany
Jul 19 - Molde Jazz Festival - Molde Norway
Jul 24 - Stadtpark - Hamburg Germany
Jul 25 - Museumplatz - Bonn Germany

Steely Dan tour: One new U.S. show + tickets for Paris, France on sale
Not content playing two dates at The Beacon Theatre in New York in May, Steely Dan has added a third. The date is June 10 and tickets go on sale this Friday; March 16.
Europe then?
As we type this tickets for Le Grand Rex, Paris, France on July 10 are selling for 45, 56, 78 and 100 Euros over at http://www.ticketnet.fr/.
A note of warning: Even though tickets for a couple of European shows are on sale, no official announcement of any European tour has been made by the band.
Shows could be moved or cancelled.
That being said, chances of Steely Dan playing Europe this summer look promising, nes pas?
Also: We have no means of checking the quality of service offered by the ticket companies that we link to. But you know as well as we do that when surfing the Internet you'e wise to proceed with caution. Especially when it comes to buying stuff like tickets.

Actor sings his way onto Radio Dupree playlist!
We've all had to face singers who try to be actors and vice versa. Usually with less that satisfying results. And right here we could here list a few of those misfires, but let's move and mention a fresh arrival that pulls it off. His name? Samuel L. Jackson!
A successful actor of more than 90 movies, he plays a blues player named Lazarus in the new movie Black Snake Moan. And learned to play the guitar enough to be on a couple of tracks on the soundtrack.
Radio Dupree just got a promo of one song; Stackolee, albeit in two versions; the clean and the dirty.
We listened to the rough blues guitar and Samuel's talk-song delivery and immediately decided to add it to our playlist. Samuel's blues delivery works. And we're looking forward to hearing the rest of the soundtrack as well as seeing the movie. We've always liked Samuel and his co-star in Black Snake Moan is another of our favourites; Christina Ricci!
Samuel playin' the blues. (That's not Radio Dupree but Christina Ricci clinging to his knee.)

Tickets for Steely Dan in Norway on sale today
With all the unsupported "facts", "inside information" and rumours flying about we subscibe to the idea that if it's not on steelydan.com it's not official. What if it's on current keyboard player Jeff Young's homepage? Close, but still not 100 percent.
So let's just say it looks likely that Steely Dan will do a European tour in July, hitting a few jazz festivals. In fact, one of those jazz festival gigs can be called more than a rumour. And as of 9 a.m. Central European Time today you can buy tickets to the show at Molde Jazz Festival i Norway July 19.
Steely Dan gets a shared billing with Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint. Tickets priced at 480:- + a 20:- fee. It adds up to 500 Norwegian kronor = $81 = £42 = 120 German Mark or 62 Euros.
It's outdoors and unnumbered. Here's a direct link to the Norwegian version of Ticketmaster:
STEELY+DAN+OG+ELVIS+COSTELLO
And here's a link to Molde Jazz Festival. Very little info in English so far and Steely Dan, Elvis & Allen are the first and only artists mentioned of the 2007 lineup. The complete program will be posted late March.

Here's the right way to recieve the news of a Steely Dan show in your hometown:
That's Kolbjørn Venås, drum teacher and musician interviewed by the local Norwegian newspaper Romsdals Budstikke.
The headline reads "Steely Dan-fan cheers" and the article starts off by saying that Kolbjørn felt chills down his spine when he heard the news that Steely Dan is scheduled to play Molde Jazz Festival July 19.
He has a hard time to rank the Steely Dan albums, but pressed by the reporter he picks Gaucho as his absolute favourite. It was the first Steely Dan album he heard back in the mid-80s.
The newspaper has a webcam showing downtown Molde:
