Don't look now, supermarket customers!

This is the brand new record from Manic Street Preachers titled Journal For Plague Lovers.
Four of the major UK supermaket chains; Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons, have - amongst others - decided to sell it in a plain slipcase. Why? Because the face on the cover looks like it is splattered with blood.

"We felt that some customers might consider this particular album cover to be inappropriate if it were prominently displayed on the shelf," says a representative from Asda, while band member James Dean Bradfield is quoted saying "We just thought it was a beautiful painting. We were all in total agreement."

And about the artist Jenny Saville: "It is her brushwork. If you're familiar with her work, there's a lot of ochres and browns and reds and browns and perhaps people are looking for us to be more provocative than we are being."
